May 2006 - Headers
Bought My First Replica Product
When I say first, I’m not including my MagnaFlows, since I don’t think they are
an attempt at a copy of another muffler, whereas this product, I think is. I thought
long and hard about it, and decided to give these a try.
The seller has a good reputation, others have used them with fine results, and
more importantly, a trusted source has had them in his hands and commented
favorably about them as far as fit and finish, oh, and they’re about 1/5th the
cost of the ‘real deal’. So, for $300 delivered, I decided I’d give these a
shot.
Honestly, I’m kind of an elitist when it comes to name brand vs. copies, but
there is such little hard and fast evidence of ‘this header creates this power’, the cost
of trying is a much easier pill to swallow.
Shipping was fast; Packing was good; Welds look good as far as I can tell. Haven't measured for equal length; looks pretty close. Install should be next week sometime. The down pipes will be mated to my existing cat section. I will *not* be getting these coated before initial install.
2 minor areas to tweak-ment
Cross brace: the section of tube heading to the cats needs to be manipulated upwards maybe ~1". The exhaust shop will know how to handle this. Washers were installed so that the exhaust shop will see how much clearance is needed. It could be that once the remained of the exhaust is fitted, it'd be high enough, but its worth mentioning.
The other small tweak so far is at the motor mount arm. There are two small brass pads. The one closer to the wheel needs to be bent down just a smidgen. No biggie. Again, it could be that once the remained of the exhaust is fitted, it'd be fine, but its worth mentioning.
