Refinished BBS RGRs & New Rear 285s - January 2006
I needed new rear tires, so I decided to get the BBSs refinished since it made sense to do so. The wheels were ~90% in good shape, but that other 10% really bothered me, even though no one else could see the imperfections unless they were up close.
The color came out different than I had expected, but, it worked out very well. I don't think the pictures can capture it just right, but I'll attempt to put it into words. The up close pics, in the sun, the metallic picks up any color within a few feet, so that blue you see could be my jeans. :>)
The entire wheel was PCd. What color, and what manufacture, I don't know; it might be a custom mix. There was a base layer, then another, and the final clear which has some [understatement] metallic in it.
In the shade, the wheels give off a muted, graphite color with a tinge of dark slate. The pictures make them look almost black, but that isn't quite the case.
When the sun hits them, wow. Its totally different. The light brings the clearcoat with the metallic alive and the color really brightens up. Its really odd to see that kind of surface on a wheel.
The finished surface is like a heavy layer of paint. Very slick. The finish is likely more smooth than any other painted surface finish on my car; yes. I'm very happy!
Before mounting back to the MC, at the mounting surface we needed to remove a little PC.
And now, the 285s. The look of the wheel, off the car, is true meaty. There is just a little bulge at the rime, and I like that.
