07.23.10 - POV

I could never get the PnP AIM SmartyCam setup to function correctly, and I did not want to tear up my original video camera, so I decided to go with the POV 1.5 setup.  I found a 'like new' set up for ~350, shipped.

I am most excited about is being able to easily start and stop it with the wireless remote, which was a PITA with my standard video cam when I was strapped in.  It records digitally to SDHC, 8gb max, which per the manual is ~5.75 hours at the max resolution settings; well inside a full weekend of 8 30min sessions

Pros

• light
• records to digital format, not tape; solid state
• good field of view
• should have good sound
• I save my standard digital camcorder for the baby movies :>)

Tidy-ed up the install a little with some split looming.  Also uprated the firmware to 1.4 (link) (link), and, found a mic setting (1-10) on the unit; it was set at 5, adjusted up to 10.

Still not happy with the sound quality with the mic behind the passenger seat, so I have installed a windscreen and routed it to the front; still nice and clean looking
