02.15.10 - GT3 Alcantara Project

 

I used Don Le @ Dallas Custom Steering Wheel for this project, just like I did in the C4S.  Don again was awesome.  Fair prices, great work, great communication, and fast turn-around and shipping.

1The steering wheel will be a new wheel; I am not having the factory thicker wheel recovered

2 I sourced another EBrake handle that I have having fully covered, so I can keep the factory CF knob and EBrake components unchanged

 

 

Shift Knob

"6-Speed Shift Knob from the GT3. Comes fully covered in Alcantara with Volcano grey trim and dark grey stitching. The shift pattern comes in white. Fitment: Boxster S, Cayman S, or Carrera (all versions) 2005 or newer."

I wanted a knob that would be full Alcantara,  but I wanted a more rounded, classic shift knob, and match the rest of my Alcantara Project, like before with the C4S Alcantara Project.

I bought a 997-->996 shift knob adapter piece from another RL'r for the conversion

Come to find out, I don't really need the adapter.  I had an old shifter from another SSK install, and did some test fittings.   Interestingly enough, the 997 GT3 knob fits on the 996 shifter/shaft.  I will use a set screw like I did on the previous shift knob setup to keep things snug, but the fit is already plenty snug.

I should now be able to install the twist-lock collar onto the new Alcantara shift boot that Don will make, and be all set.

                  

 

 

 

Steering Wheel          

I decided to buy another wheel directly from Don and have him do it up.  Extra padding, and with the Yellow stripe @ 12 o'clock.  I will sell my OEM padded thicker steering wheel to help defray some of the costs associated. with the project.

 

                               

 

Console & Trim Pieces

Seat Cushions

From Alphatekniko.  The seat bottom pieces are covers, so you transfer the foam over to them.  They use Velcro closures on the bottom just like the OEM leather covers.  The seat back pieces are sealed, 1-piece items, just like OEM.
