12.12.09 - X51 Oil Pan Install Tech Session

Here are the pictures from the 996 X51 Oil Pan Install Tech Session. No drama. I brought my car to Dell's house yesterday and put it up on the lift to start the oil draining so it would be less messy today when we pulled the pan off.

The swap was very straightforward:

Drain oil
Remove bolts
Remove pan
Clean mating surface
Clean new pan
Apply new Locktite 5900 to new pan
Mate new pan
Reinstall bolts

The only left over items from today are:

With the low ambient temps, we plan to let the pan and sealant set for a couple days before re-introducing the new oil.
We need to verify the correct torque values for the bolts @ 7.5 ft/lbs for the bolts, and we did not have a torque wrench that went down that low, so another Triangle member is bringing one by later today

The most amount of time was spent cleaning the mating surfaces with the razor blade scraper you see in the pictures. I also used some BrakeKleen and a scotch brite pad to clean the old sealant off of the block.

I’d like to thank the following folks for their help today:

Dell T. for the use of his lift
Randy H. for taking the pictures
Ken R for setting up and running the webcasting
Carlos for bringing the cookies
The rest of the peanut gallery for their supportive comments during the session :>)
