02.21.09 Shifter Screw

So I wanted to condition the leather on the shifter boot, and while its still attached its somewhat difficult, so I figured I'd remove it, and get some exposure to the removal process in case I decide to go down the Alcantara Project path.

Look at the B&M Short Shifter Instructions.  Unclip the boot; got it.  Use loosen set screw.  Ah ha - its not a hex; its a Torx; no problem; have those.  Its not budging, and I am rounding out the inside of the set screw.  F.  I brace the shift lever, and with the Torx ratchet fitting in the set screw, give it a little encouragement to set  with a few taps from the hammer.  I then attach the ratchet, push in hard and turn, and success, the set screw relinquished its hold in the knob fitting.  Motherpussbucket; the factory used thread locker on it; no wonder.

OK, so now the set screw is for near future permanently affixed tot  my Torx socket; T15 BTW.  I take the shifter, boot and all, up the road to my local Ace hardware and start trying all of their hex head cap bolts.  Success; M5X10, 80 pitch.  $0.50/ea

So, before you star this process, get some M5X10, 80 pitch hex head bolts.
